5 TIPS FOR FRIZZ-FREE CURLS!

FINALLY: CURLS ARE HAVING A MOMENT!

Taylor Swift was pictured in New York this month au natural, Kylie Minogue has recently revived her 80's corkscrew curls, models' of the moment Frederikka Sofie and Mica Arganarazare gracing the pages of Vogue and fronting campaigns from Chloe to H&M.

For a variety of reasons the majority of curly haired girls have been going to extremes to defy their curls. It's time to ditch the straighteners!

Curls are a blessing. But only if you know how to care for them. Here's some tips on how to embrace their natural beauty:

01: FIND A GOOD CURLY HAIRDRESSER

Finding a good curly hairdresser can be difficult, but don't give up as they will be the key to your perfect curls. Call around a few of your local salons and ask if they have any stylists that have curly hair. Putting in this ground work will be worth it, a curly haired stylist will have first hand experience of curls and will know exactly how to manage your mane. Alternatively if you see another curly with a great haircut, don't be afraid to ask who her stylist is!

Remember to go to the salon with your hair curly.  Style your hair to show your hairdresser what your curls look like. Seeing your hair in its natural state will allow them to see how much 'bounce' you have and how much to cut to get the length and shape that you want.

02: CHOOSE THE RIGHT PRODUCTS

Avoid hair products containing sulphates. While sulphates cleanse the hair and are great at removing dirt and toxins, they are too harsh on curly hair. They strip the hair of it's natural oils that are so important for nourishing dry, curly hair.

03: EMBRACE THE CO-WASH

Daily washing will dry out your curls. But we know this is a catch 22 since second day curls can be flat and frizzy. We recommend only using shampoo twice per week, however this doesn't mean you can't wash your hair!

Embrace the 'co (conditioner) wash'. Avoid the shampoo and rise with conditioner only for nourished, bouncy, frizz-free curls!

04: DITCH THE HAIRBRUSH

The more you touch your hair the more frizz you create. The hairbrush is a curly girls nightmare. Switch to in-shower combing for a frizz-free life! Comb through conditioner in the shower, leave for a few minutes before giving your hair one final rinse. This will leave the hair follicles flat and smooth. Any more combing after this will create frizz.

05: MODIFY YOUR DRYING METHOD

Choosing the right towel is key for frizz free curls. The uneven surface of a regular towel roughens up the hair cuticles and creates frizz. Scrunch drying with a special microfibre towel is the best thing thing you can do for your curls. The smooth microfibre yarns of these towels absorb just the right amount of moisture and leave cuticles intact.

Try the Only Curls pioneering microfibre curly hair towel.
